All of us spend money on trying to make ourselves look better. Hair products, make-up, teeth whitening and plastic surgery are all ways in which we try and improve our appearance.
When 1000 women were asked what they spent on their appearance, the average was over £1300 a year!
This money will mainly have been spent on products that only temporarily alter your appearance.
Can you believe that you could be spending over £110 a month on products which don’t actually improve your appearance or health permanently?
Why are we spending all of this money when we could be investing in ourselves, improving our physical and mental health, have naturally better skin and get a body people will be envious of.
No need for expensive plastic surgery!
So here are 5 easy but powerful ways you can invest in your fitness.
Number 1 – Educate Yourself
Do you want to lose weight, feel better and look great? You need to know how to start!
You need to learn how to lose weight. This is a great way of investing in yourself and the only investment you need is time, as you can find most resources you will need online.
Blog posts and articles on Fitness Sites (*cough* SwiftFit *cough*) are a great way of learning what you need to do to lose weight. They can teach you what you should be eating and what kind of exercise you need to be doing.
The only problem with this is that there is a lot of conflicting information on the internet, so it could get confusing.
However, for a good starting point, without spending any money, it is a great way to learn what you need to do to lose weight.
Number 2 – Track Your Nutrition
This is possibly one of the best ways of learning what you need to eat to lose weight.
Using a food tracking app is another great, free way in which you can dramatically improve your health.
Learn to recognise how much you are eating day-to-day and how different foods affect your body.
You could be eating too much without realising it and it could be having a negative effect on your weight loss. If you see how many calories certain foods contain it might encourage you to make a swap to a healthier alternative.
Downloading a food tracker app (like MyFitnessPal) is simple and easy to use. Plus, having it on your phone means it is available at all times, so you can update it throughout the day as you eat.
It will help you understand how many calories you need to eat, and how often you probably go over this number, which is why you’re struggling to lose weight.
Yes, this all takes some time out of your day, but would you rather invest some time into learning what should make up your diet and understand calories, or do you want to keep struggling to lose weight?
Number 3 – Buy some fitness equipment
By this I don’t mean you need a full home gym. My go to exercise equipment would be dumbbells.
They are affordable, can be used at home and don’t take up much space. They can also be used for a huge variety of exercises which can help tone every part of your body.
Once you have some, there is no need for a gym membership, you can get fit at home and you can even exercise in front of the telly!
Number 4 – Get a gym membership
Although you don’t need one to lose weight and get fit, a gym membership is very useful.
The huge range of equipment in gyms, means there is a great variety of exercises you can do to help you lose weight.
If you can afford the monthly membership and are willing to invest the time in going regularly, a gym membership is a great choice and gives you a whole host of equipment you would never have in your home.
However, if you find the gym environment threatening, don’t want the extra travel time or need help with creating an exercise plan and learning how to eat for weight loss, it may not be the best choice.
Number 5 – Online Personal Trainer
Want to know how an Online Trainer is the best investment you could make? (Yes I know I am biased)
But, because it’s the best, you must realise that it’s not going to be the cheapest. But it will still be cheaper than spending £110 every month on beauty products.
Liposuction can cost anywhere between £2000 and £6000, so being guided through a fat loss training plan, receiving sound nutrition advice and having someone motivate you and keep you accountable for around £300 is well worth the money to eventually get the same result.
And throughout that you actually learn how to keep the weight off.
Investing in a professional means you are going to get expert advice and the best plan of action to help you reach your goal.
There is no struggle in deciding what exercises you need to do, how much cardio you should be doing, what you need to eat and even no need for a gym membership.
Instead you get a training plan focusing on what you want to achieve You receive the best nutrition advice on what you should be eating and how to still enjoy food even while trying to lose weight.
Get someone with experience on your side, be able to ask them questions on anything you are confused about.
And most importantly, for almost everyone, have a way of staying accountable. We all struggle with motivating ourselves to exercise! When you need to check in to say you’ve completed workouts and someone is on the other end making sure you keep it up, it makes it easier to make the program a part of your routine and get the results you want.
Plus as you progress, your workouts will change so your progress won’t stall.
